HTC Desire Review

April 23, 2010 by: admin

HTC Desire is the latest phone from HTC. Eagerly unwrapping the box  i have to say it felt like Christmas but was I going to find a lump of useless black coal or was this prime Whitby Jet?

Whitby Jet

Luckily for all of us it is Whitby Jet! The HTC Desire is by no means a disappointment although not quite as sexy as the HTC Legend it is a bit bigger and more powerful. Don’t let the lack of Aluminium casing put you off either, picking up the HTC Desire for the first time it feels tactile and solid and the rubber coating on the case makes for a welcome experience.

Enough of my rubber fetish for now, the speed that this phones works it is fantastic and in my eyes trumps the Google Nexus One by far. Multitasking is a breeze and the 1ghz Snapdragon processor just keeping powering on and on. It does get a little hot with all that action though and as with all Smartphones the battery life isn’t the best with no chance of going away for a weekend without taking your charger.

The 3.7 AMOLED screen is bright and the colours look solid and generally brilliant. The screen its self is pretty sensitive but anything that needs slight of hand the optical trackball really does come into its own and is a step up over the standard trackball found on the Nexus one and HTC Legend of old. The onscreen keyboard is also a cracker highlighting each keystroke as you type and is on par if not better than the iPhone.

The phone has a 3.5mm headphone socket too, so easy to set this up for listening to music or watching movies. The phone is also easy to setup with a nice wizard guiding you through adding your email, Facebook etc at the start.

HTC traditionally haven’t been great with Cameras but this is there best effort so far. Boasting 5 mega pixels and generally being a solid performer it now has a flash which was lacking on the HTC Hero and a big boost for me plus it also has a wide angle lens, not that i would take much from the last feature.

Finally on my favorite features is really simple but really useful for me. I often sit in meetings and forget to turn my phone on silent. Well  instead of fiddling with the screen all you have to do with the HTC Desire is turn it over and it will mute.

Conclusion

Yes its not as sexy as the HTC Legend or iPhone but this is a better phone in terms of speed and therefore will likely not be slow in a few years. Its like me favorite feature simple yet brilliant.
