HTC Legend Review

April 26, 2010 by: admin

HTC is fast becoming the phone manufacturer mentioned as the only real alternative to the iPhone. What these guys

have done in such a short time is produce iPhone killers in many peoples eyes and managed major partnerships with Google and

Microsoft, you cant really fail to be impressed.

HTC Legend

The HTC Legend is arguably sexier than the iPhone and better built. It takes the ethos behind the Mac Laptops and provides you with a single piece of milled Aluminium casing with what can only be described as joy to behold and play with.

So the phone looks amazing but does it carry on the same simplistic genius and user experience beyond the looks. Thankfully yes, the screen is a little smaller than the HTC Desire but is based on the same tech and big enough to watch movies and interactive with easily. The on screen keyboard is also lovely and easy to use and on par if not exactly the same as the HTC Desire and equal to the iPhone. The old clunky Trackball has also been replaced with a lovely optical version making it lovely and easy to scroll around the screen.

All the new HTC phones on Android are running the “Sense” version of the software. This makes is very easy to setup your email and Social Networking solutions and also has few lovely features. Like the iPhone the HTC Legend will come stocked with the basic apps your likely to need like Contacts, weather and twitter and Facebook. The last two are combined in an app called “Friend stream” alongside Flickr which will allow you to have a separate home screen combining all your incoming messages, tweets and photos and allow you to reply in one place. In fact the ability to have different home screens is a lovely feature. Simply bring your fingers together on the screen and you can choose a different home screen easily.

The other big thing about the HTC desire and HTC Legend as well as most of the other HTC phones is the ability to play flash on the browser. This might not seem like a big thing to some but over 70% of websites use flash as part of there design and if you have an iPhone you cant see this. Unfortunately if you’re an iPhone user your unlikely to see it in the near future either as Adobe and Apple do seem to be in deadlock.

The Bad?

Well there isn’t much I can pick on here. According to a number of Journos the WiFi isn’t great seems to be the same affliction as the iPad with the Aluminium case diminishing its range and speed. Finally since we do keep comparing it to the iPhone you can’t get as many apps for it but this is increasing daily with most people now building apps for the iPhone and Android platforms. At the end of the day though this is far cheaper option than the iPhone and you can listen and play music and videos easily as well as surf the web and generally do pretty much everything you can on the iPhone. The onboard storage isn’t as high initially but you can add up to 32 GB via a memory card if this is a priority. iPhone Killer for the astute and less brand happy, quite possibly yes!
